The Pickled Pig Butchery
Belmont, NSW
Head butcher, Jason Pearson, recently embarked on his own butchery journey after learning the trade at his father’s butcher shop in Kurri Kurri from the age of fifteen. The Pickled Pig Butchery offers a fresh approach to butchery by combining great meat products, excellent marketing and an eye for detail. Jason’s extensive selection of German Wurst smallgoods and chilli jerky are stand outs for us. While you’re in store check out the handmade blackboards and custom Pickled Pig engraving throughout the fit out. Deservingly, they are the talk of the town!

Clarence Town Butchery
Clarence Town, NSW
Situated in what might be one of Australia’s oldest butcher shops, Brett and wife Lee offer an extensive range of local meat and succulent gourmet sausage varieties that rival any big city store. Traditional woodwork and relics collected over the years are displayed around the shop and make the environment feel warm and inviting. This is one of our favourite country butchers and definitely worth a visit especially if you appreciate a butcher that has genuine, old-fashioned pride in what they produce.

Caminiti Butchery
Five Dock, NSW
Since migrating from Sicily, Italy, in the 1960’s, the Caminiti family has become synonymous with delivering quality food products with a distinct Italian flavour. A local celebrity in our eyes, Sam has certainly built on the legacy of his late father, Bruno, by ensuring the traditional techniques and principals are not forgotten in this modern age. Aside from their mouth-watering sausage varieties such as lamb, feta and spinach, the ready-to-go meals are a must to try. All of them are prepared on the premises using the freshest ingredients with Sam’s mother, Nonna, still hand-making the lasagne every week. The staff’s patience and willingness to offer useful cooking advice is also a stand out. Being Italian, I guess that comes naturally!

The Meat Boutique
Ryde, NSW
The Meat Boutique prides itself on being a strong family and community orientated butcher that’s establishing a growing reputation for providing quality food products at an affordable price. From their gold winning, smoked pork and apple sausage to their gourmet duck with orange and pistachio nut variety, this is home to some truly inspired cooking. They've also made great use of technology by offering online sales and butcher explanatory videos that provide customers with an honest insight into their butchering principles. A great idea in our view! With the combination of the fruit and vegetable store next door (under the same ownership), this partnership certainly rivals any supermarket.

Exclusive Meats
Turramurra, NSW
After first practising the art of butchery as an apprentice in the Turramurra store throughout his younger years, Jason decided to take over this little gem in the early nineties. Since then he’s firmly established himself amongst his peers as an Australian expert in German wurst smallgoods. As you pass through the store you’re constantly reminded of his success with numerous awards proudly displayed on the cabinets for all to see. His clinical approach, use of fresh produce and loyalty to traditional German techniques has produced beauties such as the infamous Nuremberg Bratwurst, Chicken Bratwurst and Continental Frankfurter (now this is what a hot dog should really taste like, none of this mass-produced, artificial business!). His double smoked ham is also amazing and definitely adds a new dimension to the ham and cheese toasty we’re all used to. Worth a visit in our opinion, especially if you appreciate a butcher with a genuine passion for the practice.

Eastern Road Quality Meats
Turramurra, NSW
If you’re after a true paddock to plate experience this butcher is for you! Where possible, Allan will process, age and present the beef from his own NSW farm, ‘Borambil’. He’s also more than happy to elaborate on his sustainable farming practices to customers and of course share his love for Jerome the bull, as we found out. The selection of sausages on offer is impressive, from San Choy Bau to Mediterranean Lamb; it seems as though everyone’s taste buds have been cleverly catered for. It’s great to see other items such as Bilpin apple pies and locally baked bread also on offer, making it a one-stop shop for all things fresh and delicious.
